What is the AEF and BCEF?

AIDS Emergency Fund (AEF) - Provides shortterm emergency financial assistance to San Franciscans battling HIV/AIDS. Since 1982, AEF has rallied community support to help pay basic living costs such as rent, utility bills and medical expenses for poverty-level San Franciscans with disabling HIV or AIDS. Annually, AEF helps nearly 2,500 chents avoid evrctron or utilrty shut-off, improve the quality oftheir lives and maintain stable housing. AEF works closely with more than 40 other AIDS service agencies in San Francisco to assure that its emergency assistance is coupled with referrals to other organizations that provide meals, counseling, subsidized housing and other longeFterm assistance.Breast Cancer Emergency Fund (BCEF)

Breast Cancer Emergency Fund (BCEF) - Provides short-term emergency financial assistance to low-income San Franciscans battling breast cancer. Founded in April 2001, BCEF is modeled on AIDS Emergency Fund, a community-based organrzation serving people with HIV/AIDS since 1982. [4any people with breast cancer have no health insurance and are unable to work during their illness or treatment, adding a huge financial toll to an
already difficult struggle. BCEF helps clients avoid eviction or utility shut-off, improve the quality oftheir lives and maintain stable housing during their illness. Assistance from BCEF lessens the emotional toll of unpaid bills and helps clients focus on their health and families. BCEF also makes referrals to agencies that can provide longeFterm help with practical and emotional support and other vital seNices. Breast Cancer Emergency Fund and AIDS Emergency Fund share office space, staff and other administrative expenses to keep overhead costs low.
